 GRAITEC announces 19.9% turnover growth for the first Quarter of 2012, compared to 2011.

After a very intensive 2011, the first quarter of 2012 exceeds expectations from a turnover and margin perspective for GRAITEC.

Going more into the details, the performance of GRAITEC France, USA, Russia and Germany are absolutely remarkable. The new subsidiary in Italy has also realized a superb performance with a turnover that exceeds the objectives by +34%.

The GRAITEC Advance suite has achieved during Q1 2012 an amazing growth of +43% compared to 2011: “This is a great performance that demonstrates the growth capacity of GRAITEC solutions but also their fit to the market, customer needs and BIM environment” comments Alexandre Tartas, GRAITEC COO.

User club 2012 and conference organized by DATACOMP in Poland

The User club 2012 user meeting was organized in Katowice on February 16th 2012 with an attendance of GRAITEC users and prospects that came from all over the Poland. The agenda of the meeting included presentations of new features in the 2012 release of the GRAITEC Advance suite (Advance Steel, Advance Concrete andAdvance Design). The main event of the meeting was the successful presentation of Advance Steel 2012 working on its own platform. The user meeting was highlighted by the presentation of projects done by GRAITEC users from Poland and all over the world.

Slawomir Wozniak (GRAITEC Sales Manager in Poland) reports: “The meeting of GRAITEC users and prospects was a great opportunity to share experiences and knowledge. The third edition of the “Modern hall systems” conference, organized on January 25th 2012 in the city of Poznan, gathered almost 200 attendees from all over the Poland who are committed to the steel construction industry – steel manufacturers, investors, detailers, designers, scientists and software engineers. DATACOMP, gave a public lecture in the conference room about “Interactive documentation for steel constructions” lead by Slawomir Wozniak (GRAITEC Sales Manager in Poland) and Pawel Mikurda (Advance Steel Local Product Manager) in which the topic of interactive documentation was described through Advance Steel as a perfect solution for it. The biggest interest was shown after the lecture when many attendees came to the GRAITEC/Datacomp booth, which lead to further discussions, meetings with GRAITEC users and new contacts.

Another success story: customer in Canada thrilled to work with Advance Steel

A recognized and expanding company in the manufacturing of steel structures and wrought metals situated in Quebec (Canada), Pro-Mec Elite Inc., has chosen GRAITEC Advance Steel 2012 as its steel detailing software.

Pro-Mec Elite Inc. was using AutoCAD and Inventor so far to do all their studies. They recently decided to move to a 3D BIM solution in order to gain productivity with their drill-line from Ficep and analyzed all software available on the market.

After an extensive review of several software packages such as TEKLA Structures, SDS/2, and StruCAD, they found that Advance Steel is much easier to use and with the advantage to be based on AutoCAD.

GRAITEC Advance, aims primarily to improve the productivity of its users, help them reduce design errors and increase the quality of project documentation. The GRAITEC Advance suite is for the most demanding professionals and its ergonomics are designed to make it easy to learn and use.

The Advance suite is based on the implementation of a digital model (BIM / Building Information Model). This technology associates each real object to its virtual equivalent in the digital model and users have the opportunity to simulate the behavior of the real structure and automate many processes. With open BIM standards, Advance can also be used with the Autodesk Revit suite for the structural analysis and design and document creation of models created in Revit.

Project description:
The concert hall consists of 500 tons of steel. A specific feature of the project was the creation of the whole steel construction. The construction mainly consists of three-dimensional rolled pipes. Additionally each single pipe had elliptical-shaped radii on two levels. The parts of the steel construction had to be connected in an elegant way, to give the building a perfect façade. First, the steel parts were prefabricated in the workshop of NCA Container- und Anlagenbau GmbH. The Steel parts were finally welded together, to have a smooth connection between the main bars.

BIM transfer between Advance Steel and Advance Design

GRAITEC Advance BIM suite enables users to transfer 3D models between Advance Steel and Advance Design, whether it is standard sections from the software’s library or user sections.

 Choosing elements to transfer from Advance Steel to Advance Design 

Among all their different properties (size, material, length, weight, part mark number, etc.), Advance Steel elements are defined by the “Structural member” property. When importing these elements to Advance Design using the GRAITEC BIM center, elements for which this property is not activated will be ignored (e.g. kickrail of a railing, etc.).

If an element has its “Structural member” property selected, it will be imported in Advance Design.

 Creating a user section in Advance Steel and get it also in Advance Design 

In addition to the standard sections (e.g. I beams, angles, tubes, etc.) that are provided when installing the software, Advance Steel end-users can define (and store in the library) any user sections.
Easily create a new user section in Advance Steel and save it so that it can be available in the drop-down list. This will allow the use of this section in the Advance Steel 3D model.

BIM transfer between Advance Steel and Advance Design

To have this user section available in Advance Design, start Advance Design and go to Edit > Used cross sections. In the dialog box which appears, click the “Add” button to add a new section. In the Advance Steel category, choose the user section called “Usersection“. Select the section that is previewed in the table.

Your user section is now available: create a beam in the Advance Design model and choose the user section that you have just imported.
You now just have to apply the different loads on your structure (snow, wind, loads, etc.) and to start the optimization of your structure!

With Advance Concrete 2011 Service Pack 1, most functions’ speed was significantly increased compared to the 2010 version. Among these improvements:

With its advanced feature set, Advance Steel supports the design of complex structures such as straight and spiral stairs, railings, cage ladders, etc. Advance Steel creates all necessary documents (including NC files) for the stair fabrication using a user selected template. The stair can be modified using numerous profile types for stringers, various connection types between the treads and the stringers. Advance Steel offers a large library of tread types and railings, but the user can also define its own tread type that can be stored in the library for future use.

Advance Steel – Stairs and Railings

With its advanced feature set, Advance Steel supports the design of complex structures such as straight and spiral stairs, railings, cage ladders, etc. Advance Steel creates all necessary documents (including NC files) for the stair fabrication using a user selected template.

Quick and easyAdvance Steel: Stairs - Quick and easy
Once the user selects 2 points, the stair with its stringer and treads (including connection to the stringer) is created.
The tread distances are calculated using a standard formula for determining the ergonomic height and length of the step.

The stair can be modified using profile types for stringers, connection types between the treads and the stringers, lower and upper landing

Instant railings
Once the stringers are selected, the railings are created using the user defined start and end points.
Railings of any type can then be modified. Features include:

  • Profile types for posts, handrail and kickrail
  • Controlled positioning of posts, top handrail, middle handrail and kickrail
  • Connection between posts and stringers
  • And more…

If the stair length and width are modified the railing is automatically updated!

Spiral stairs
Using the Advance Steel advanced tools, with a few clicks defining the height, the tread width and direction, the entire stair can be created. Various options are available:

  • Large library of tread types
  • Treads can be welded to the central post or connected by a profile or a bolted plate

Cage ladders
All elements of a cage ladder are inserted by two points defining the height. The number of rungs can be defined or calculated according to the distance between the rungs. The user can modify then the shape and the size of the elements.

Easy to customize 
Stairs and railings can be customized through the Properties dialog box.
The tabs of the Properties dialog box are grouped in logical categories to simplify the use of this powerful feature.
The user can modify the parameters (dimensions, treads types, connection types, etc.) to get the required structure. All modifications are visible in the model as they happen.

Once the stair is modeled, the user may select a template for the workshop drawing. Advance Steel then creates all the necessary documents (including NC files) for the stair fabrication. The drawings are automatically labeled and dimensioned. The user can customize the drawing layout using the Drawing Style Manager.
