The 4th Annual Advance Steel Academy 2017 in US is a Success!

GRAITEC, Autodesk® Platinum Partner, hosted its fourth edition of Advance Steel Academy, an advanced training focused on Autodesk® Advance Steel. This event took place in San Antonio on March 20-22, just before the NASCC, and we welcomed 50 Advance Steel users (this number has doubled from last year!). “The objective of the Advance Steel Academy is for all attendees to develop their Advance Steel skills, learn about trends within the building and construction industry and network with other industry professionals.” Hugo Michaud, Sales Director Americas, Graitec Group.

The first day was met with a buzz of excitement at the historical Menger Hotel as we anxiously awaited our guests’ arrival.

This was my first Advance Steel Academy to attend, and I will continue attending in the future. I learned new tips, tricks and technics on most all seminars. The GRAITEC team welcomed Autodesk Advance Steel users with different backgrounds. Steel and Precast Detailers, Steel Erectors, Steel & Precast Fabricators, Structural Engineers, Contractors, etc. gathered for in-depth workshops, technical sessions and networking.

For the third consecutive year, we were joined by Autodesk partners. Michael Gustafson, Industry Strategy Manager for Structural Engineering at Autodesk, talked about Autodesk’s vision for the Future of Structure & BIM. He adds: “Graitec’s Advance Steel Academy event was a big success. I’ve attended this event for three years now, and it has steadily attracted more customers each year. It was a great week having the opportunity to meet with Advance Steel customers at Graitec’s event as well as at NASCC.

GRAITEC Delivers Autodesk Advance Steel Detailing Software Training During its Annual User Group


Each year GRAITEC hosts a North America advanced training focused on Advance Steel, Autodesk’s structural steel detailing software. This year the User Group took place in Orlando, Florida on April 26-28.

GRAITEC User Group welcomed Autodesk Advance Steel users from US and Canada and from all areas of the building and construction industry, including Steel and Precast Detailers, Steel Erectors, Steel & Precast Fabricators, Structural Engineers and Contractors. This 3 day event included in-depth workshops, technical sessions and networking.

The objective of the User Group is for all attendees to develop their Advance Steel skills, learn about trends within the building and construction industry and network with other industry professionals.Hugo Michaud, Graitec General Manager Americas.

For this second edition, GRAITEC was pleased to welcome once again Michael Gustafson, P.E. Autodesk Industry Strategy Manager, Structural Engineering who talked about the Future of Advance Steel, and presented all the new features available in the 2017 version.

The User Group attendees explored the extensive portfolio of GRAITEC and Autodesk latest advanced BIM technology. Indeed, GRAITEC experts gave intense training on various topics: Management Tools Database, Connectors & Special Parts, Custom Connection, Project Management & Mutli User, Plateworks, Drawing Styles Customization etc.

This event allowed GRAITEC to introduce Advance Workshop, its steel fabrication management information software. One-on-One sessions took place in order to discuss about its BIM workflow with Advance Steel, its ERP Systems integration, its real-time material traceability and more. GRAITEC demonstrated how Advance Workshop enables companies to drive increased efficiency and improved profitability.

Professionals of the industry learned about the latest BIM solutions which will help them win and complete more projects with even greater accuracy and efficiency such as:

  • Autodesk Structural Fabrication Suite, the new Autodesk complete toolset for structural engineers and fabricators which combines Navisworks Simulate, AutoCAD, Revit and Advance Steel).
  • The new version of the extension PowerPack for Advance Steel which delivers additional tools and unique value to users. This version introduces more automation and functionality enabling them to boost their output and improve quality.
  • GRAITEC Advance BIM Designers collection of applications for Structural Design, Modeling and Documentation which run on multiple platforms including Revit, Advance Design, Advance Steel enabling flexible and intelligent structural BIM workflows.

This training was very beneficial, especially the session on PowerPack 2017. We discovered new features that we haven’t used yet that will help our detailing processes. Successful Advance Steel User Group in Salt Lake City


From June 09 to 11, GRAITEC’s First North American Advance Steel User Group held in Salt Lake City was an impressive success.

This first edition gave GRAITEC the unique opportunity to gather the core group of its Advance Steel customer base and to develop strong relationship with them. Hugo Michaud, GRAITEC General Manager Americas welcomed all attendees and shared the main objective of this event which was to “offer the most advanced training with our high experienced AS specialists.” Indeed, 30 attendees from 25 companies based in 16 states across the US and Canada came to the User Group to learn more about Advance Steel features and GRAITEC team was ready to face this challenge.

It has strengthened customer confidence in the company and Autodesk Advance Steel. All participants gave excellent feedback of the event, particularly the high level of GRAITEC experienced speakers and were very pleased to meet Autodesk representatives.Hugo Michaud, General Manager Americas at GRAITEC

Hugo Michaud was pleased to welcome Autodesk’s team during this event. Michael Gustafson (Industry Strategy Manager, Structural Engineering) gave a presentation about Autodesk Vision and talked about the future of Autodesk Advance Steel in the industry. Then, he was followed by David Naylor (Advance Steel Technical Specialist) who held a complete training about Advance Steel 2016 new features and Stairs & Railings. Their presence and active participation strengthened GRAITEC’s customer confidence in the software.

During three days, Olivier Gervais (CAD Technical Supervisor) and Tommy Moussis (Technical Specialist) held advanced training on other topics: Management tools database, Custom connection, Plateworks etc… Question and Answer sessions also gave the attendees the opportunity to bring their drawing samples and discuss about their specific needs or issues.

Many clients were eager to learn more about Drawing Style Customization. To meet their needs, GRAITEC specialists held advanced training on how to be more efficient with Drawing Styles. Creation of labelling strategies, views and object presentations, dimension strategies and association of dimension strategies & the drawing styles were all covered.

GRAITEC was excited to introduce its new Steel Fabrication Management Information System (MIS) – Advance Workshop 2016. Pascal Beauregard, GRAITEC Local Product Manager, held a presentation about this extremely versatile, well-rounded fabrication management solution. Then, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the new features of GRAITEC Advance PowerPack, the powerful extension for Autodesk® Advance Steel.
