BIM Workflow – Autodesk® Advance Steel > Autodesk® A360 Drive

Jonathan Hand, Software Application Engineer at GRAITEC, speaks about exporting an Advance Steel model to A360…

Autodesk A360 enables design and engineering centric project teams to work efficiently together in one central workspace.

A360 online viewer allows you to combine and connect data to better create, view, analyze, share, and manage information on your structural projects By exporting a completed Advance Steel model to ACIS we can upload the project to A360.

Check out my screencast video showing whats possible with the new features in A360. With every model uploaded you will now have a 2D view and also use the section tools to cut the model in any required axis.

GRAITEC BIM Connect for Revit now available on Autodesk Exchange App Store

GRAITEC is delighted to announce its file collaboration and interoperability app for Revit, BIM Connect 2016, is now available as a free download directly from the Autodesk Exchange App Store.

GRAITEC BIM Connect for Revit now available on Autodesk Exchange App Store

This powerful, free extension for Autodesk® Revit® from GRAITEC provides bi-directional, intelligent Structural Building Information Modeling (BIM) model sharing, including the transfer of FEM results data, between GRAITEC Advance BIM Suite (Advance Design, Arch, SuperSTRESS, …) and Autodesk® Revit® Architecture, Autodesk® Revit® MEP, Autodesk® Revit® Structure and Autodesk® Advance Steel products.

Sharing both the geometrical shapes, including dynamic concrete-section mapping to Revit Families, together with analytical FEM results, creates a new pathway of intelligence-driven BIM workflows which assures a more robust “platform” ready to utilize the high-level of automation promised by next-gen BIM technology.

GRAITEC BIM Connect also supports multi-discipline and multi-platform workflows, enabling import and export of recognized industry BIM and collaboration formats; IFC, CIS2, SDNF and PSS, to support interoperability across a wide spectrum of disciplines and at any level.

BIM technology is changing how buildings, infrastructure and utilities are planned, designed and built. It is now essential to have intelligent BIM workflows in place to retain the integrity of models and associated data. Using BIM Connect as part of an intelligent BIM workflow makes it easy to link Revit models with its counterpart analytical model from GRAITEC Advance Suite.

GRAITEC BIM Connect for Revit now available on Autodesk Exchange App Store

BIM Connect enables a BIM workflow between GRAITEC Advance Suite and Autodesk® Revit® and Autodesk® Advance Steel

The GRAITEC BIM Connect 2016 app is now available as a complimentary download from the Autodesk Exchange App Store, an extensive online market place for third-party add-ons and extensions to Autodesk products.

GRAITEC BIM Connect compatibility

  • BIM Connect supports the transfer of building performance FEM results and is fully compliant with Autodesk® Revit® and Advance Steel 2016 versions.
  • Import and export major industry formats – IFC, SDNF, CIS2, PSS – from a single interface.
  • Bi-directional links between Advance Design and Autodesk® Revit® and Autodesk® Advance Steel.
  • Transfer all materials, concrete sections, curved walls, foundations and beams.

Download the free BIM Connect 2016 app here.

Carl Spalding, GRAITEC Product Strategy Director comments:The uptake of BIM is growing at an exceptional rate. But as companies adopt new technologies and skills they will also need to evolve their primitive, siloed workflows in order to realize the full potential of a truly intelligent BIM workflow. GRAITEC BIM Connect enables users to collaborate effectively with accurate BIM models but goes way beyond geometry to include building performance intelligence. Enabling access to constructability intelligence beyond the realm of the structural engineer office, promotes a process where design decisions can continue to be taken with confidence throughout the design phase. More importantly, this opens up new opportunities to take advantage of unrivaled automation offered by the next generation of BIM technology to come.

Desktop Subscription (DTS) – Disruption or time for a reality check?

Desktop Subscription (DTS) - Disruption or time for a reality check?

, Group Product Strategy Director at GRAITEC, speaks about Autodesk Desktop Subscription:

“[…] Let me ask you…what makes your company stand out from the crowd? What makes your company better and more successful than your competitors? Not hard is it…the people. Better yet, you! Oh, not the new software then?!

Speaking of software, CAD eventually defeated the drawing board. In a fraction of the time, BIM too will defeat CAD. It’s an inescapable reality.

Anyone who knows what they are talking about, will tell you that truly successful BIM implementation requires a great deal of knowledge, covering an enormous variety of ever changing workflows, processes, software, technology and legislation.

Today, Autodesk offers the most extensive array of design, BIM, detailing data management and visualization software technology ever. Making this full range of software available via a Desktop Subscription model, at a fraction of the initial upfront cost, affords companies the opportunities to react faster, do more in less time and become infinitely more versatile.

But the real question is, how will companies actually be able to take full advantage of all this technology without the appropriate skill set to use it effectively? Surely it’s time to take a reality check? […]”

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Chooses Advance Design America

Advance Design AmericaGRAITEC Inc, software and service provider to engineering, construction and architecture industries, is pleased to announce that its structural analysis and design software known as Advance Design America was selected by The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) to replace their current Canadian Bridge Analysis System (CANBAS). Therefore, a three-year agreement with a four-year renewable contract was signed.

The objective of the tender was to replace the Ministry’s CANBAS with a new system for the purpose of analysis and design of bridge structures. With fifteen years of knowledge and skills in bridge design and construction methods, GRAITEC Inc has demonstrated its expertise by winning this tender against major players in the industry.

The current CANBAS is a legacy application developed over 30 years ago on now outdated and non-standard Information and Information Technology architecture. GRAITEC Advance Design America solution has demonstrated the capability to create and analyse structural computer models for standard bridge structures(concrete slab on pre-stressed girders, concrete slab on steel plate girders or box girders, post-tensioned cast-in-place decks), concrete rigid frame and substructures in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC). Most importantly, Advance Design America has the design code checking capability against CHBDC so that the Ministry will have viable software to design the most common type of bridges.

GRAITEC’s North American team responsible for all Structural Analysis & Design solutions, comprised of experienced Canadian engineers, has convinced the Ministry with its professionalism, expertise and its superior technology for analysis and design for bridge building in accordance with Canadian codes.

Urgent Announcement – Autodesk Support for Windows 10

With Windows 10 now being officially available and with some users seeing the upgrade link on their work or home computers the temptation is to download this latest free upgrade without considering the wider implications of the upgrade.

Urgent Announcement - Autodesk Support for Windows 10

As with any business environment it is crucial however that wherever possible, operating system (and other critical system) upgrades are not performed in a production environment without ensuring that business critical software and hardware support the changes or upgrading to a new operating system.

For Autodesk software, currently Windows 10 is not yet an officially supported operating system across the Autodesk product line. Autodesk state that they intend to support many of their key products on Windows 10 and will add products to the list of products supported on Windows 10 as updates and future versions are released.

For users on pre 2013 products, these are no longer supported and are not included in considerations of Windows 10 compatibility.

So in summary, until supported please do not upgrade to Windows 10. If you have, technically you should be able to roll back to your previous version within 30 days, however with all things IT there are no cast iron guarantees that this will be totally successful.

Always backup all your data before major configuration changes.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact your local GRAITEC Office!
