Graitec announces Advance Design 2015

Advance Design: BIM software for FEM structural analysis including international EurocodesGRAITEC, European BIM software developer for the construction industry, announces the release of Advance Design 2015 dedicated to structural engineering.

Advance Design® is specifically dedicated to structural engineers who require a professional and easy-to-use BIM solution for structural FEM simulation and optimization according to specific design standards (Concrete, Steel or Wood).

Advance Design 2015 is articulated around 3 main subjects:

  • Concrete deflection calculation: new options for the reinforced concrete design according EC2
  • New starting screen for easier use
  • The implementation of the new NTC2008 Italian codes
  • And also: numerous improvements and adjustments

ADVANCE DESIGN 2015: concrete deflection calculation

Graitec announces Advance Design 2015

When designing a reinforced concrete structure, engineers must check limit deflections, especially on beams and floors. This is achieved by taking into account the cracked inertia of the reinforced concrete section. However, in FEM calculation, this leads to specific modelling and iterative processes which are tedious and time-consuming tasks for engineers.
Advance Design 2015 now automatically performs concrete deflection calculation based on theoretical or real reinforcement computed by the software.

Process: Successive design steps are performed, with concrete inertia being automatically calculated at each iteration. Concrete inertia is actually given by interpolation between a fully cracked state and a non-cracked state, in accordance with article 7.4.3 from EN1992-1-1.
Graphical results and reports allow for a quick and easy post-processing of all intermediate values: cracked inertia, non-cracked inertia, interpolated value, deflection for each mesh…

ADVANCE DESIGN 2015: New starting screen for easier use

In order to simplify (for the new users) the first steps with Advance Design, the 2015 release comes with a brand-new starting wizard from where the user can access many types of information:
Several project samples for each type of structure: the user can open the models he is interested in to see how to model, define the main assumption, assign design templates…

Several other help tools are available: online videos, Graitec Web pages, quick access to the documentation, software configuration… All those tools are specific to each country, depending on the configuration settings.

 

ADVANCE DESIGN 2015: entering the Italian market

Graitec announces Advance Design 2015Advance Design 2015 now features the NTC 2008 Italian codes for:

  • Actions combinations automatic generation
  • Seismic loads
  • Climatic loads (Wind & Snow)
  • Reinforced concrete design

ADVANCE DESIGN 2015: and also…

The 2015 version brings a number of new features and adjustments based on feedback from thousands of users:

  • New solver option for improved torsor calculation on walls using T6-Q9 elements

  • Improved export of a meshed model through a .TXT file format

GRAITEC partnership to FORUM 8's Virtual Design World CupGRAITEC, a leading software developer for CAD and structural analysis solutions, is supporting FORUM 8, its Value Added Reseller operating in Japan, by providing free Advance Steel and Advance Concrete licenses to the participants of FORUM 8’s 3rdStudent BIM and VR Contest open to students worldwide.

The theme of this year’s contest is “Sustainable Station Front in Global Metropolis“. The 2013 VDWC challenges students to devise a proposal of a new environmentally friendly urban space, which will most likely become one of Tokyo’s significant stopping off points for people transferring from one transport mode to another, which radiates from a new train station in Tokyo’s harbor district.

This is a contest open to students worldwide in which they compete amongst each other in designing their original model using BIM and Virtual Reality (VR) software for their chance to win a grand prize.

Work by each and every contestant will be uploaded on FORUM8’s cloud server, VR-Cloud® server, to be judged on its logistics, technical and design aspect, as well as its creativity, architectural aspect, and how innovative and environmentally friendly it is. They will be using Forum 8’s in-house developed software UC-win/Road, 3D interactive visualization tool, as a mandatory software and their choice of at least one other software to help them design and model cities. GRAITEC will provide free Advance Steel/Concrete licenses to all students taking part in this competition.

UC-win/Road, also known as VR-Design Studio, is the latest Japanese 3D Visual Interactive Visualization Technology for improved urban, transport, emergency & security planning, drive simulation, public consultation and human factors research and is ideal for visualizing BIM and VR models that portray various civil works.

The Award for the winner is a grand prize worth approximately US$3,000 including World cup Trophy and award certificates. Twenty-two other lucky winners will receive other prizes and every contestant will of course win a participation reward for their work. Applicants have until September 30th to register online. Once they have registered and created their VR model, they will need to submit their work including scripts during the period from October 1st to October 10th, and once they have submitted their work, they will be notified of the webpage on FORUM8’s VR-Cloud(R) server to which they can access to browse and test their submitted model, along with their login ID and password. FORUM 8 and special guest judges will come to a decision and determine the winners on November 21st and the best works will be awarded at the Awards Ceremony.

This contest provides a great opportunity for students to get a hands-on experience with FORUM8’s UC-win/Road as well as Advance Steel/Concrete/Design to learn all the great features and technology they have to offer.

Successful User Club 2013 meetings in PolandOn April 16th and 17th, 2013, Datacomp Sp. z o.o., GRAITEC’s authorized reseller from Krakow, Poland organized GRAITEC Advance user meetings in Gdansk and Warsaw.

The growing interest in GRAITEC Advance solutions was confirmed by the high attendance at both meetings, in which a total of 65 people participated. It was a great opportunity to get to know the GRAITEC Advance suite and exchange experiences between users.

The meeting began with the general presentation of Datacomp and Graitec, as well as media partners who acquired their patronage of these events. After a brief introduction to the Graitec Advance package, the first block of presentations began, during which new features of 2013 versions of Advance Concrete, Advance Design and Advance Steel were discussed.

Successful User Club 2013 meetings in Poland

This section was concluded by showing selected users’ projects done in the Graitec Advance suite from Poland and across the world. The last part of the meeting was opened with the presentation of GRAITEC BIM, during which the methods of exchanging data between the Graitec Advance suite and other software brand such as Revit®, ArchiCAD®, Robot (ARSA®), PDMS® were demonstrated. In addition, participants gained insight into the correct use of the BIM technology and its benefits.

Another highlight of the event was the first presentation of Advance CAD, the latest software in the Graitec Advance package. Advance CAD is a program for simple flat drawing and 3D modeling functions according to the native DWG® format. The meeting ended with the announcement of an international competition for the best project done in GRAITEC Advance suite.

User Club 2013 meetings in Poland have shown that Graitec is solid and reliable partner and choosing its solution for BIM design is the next step in developing and expanding your design office.

Julio’s professional background will be a real asset for our company and our customers.

From April- 17th 2013 GRAITEC presented its Structural BIM Solutions “Advance Steel” and “Advance Design” at the NASCC Conferences in St-Louis, USA. The highlight was the presentation of the new 2013 versions of Advance Steel.

The NASCC takes place every year and it is the most important fair for the steel construction industries in the USA and one of the biggest fairs The Americas.

GRAITEC Advance 2013 – Official release of Advance CAD 2013

Launched at the end of February 2013, BIM GRAITEC ADVANCE is the global CAD / Analysis & Design solutions for the construction engineering field. Advance CAD is part of the GRAITEC structural BIM solution and a newcomer in the GRAITEC Advance suite.

GRAITEC’s Advance CAD is fully compatible DWG® CAD software. It provides its users a simple, natural and economical solution to the frequent requirements of drawing creation and modification. Advance CAD creates all 2D entities (lines, poly-lines, arcs, circles, polygons, etc.) and associates all desired colors, line styles and shading. Concepts such as “layers”, “snap points”, “windows” are available as well as all navigation features (zoom, pan, orbit, etc.). Advance CAD can also create and handle 3D solids (cubes, spheres, cylinders, etc.) and perform Boolean operations.

The user interface is designed to get you familiarized fast with all the software elements and functionalities: quick access toolbar manager, ribbon tabs, customizable menus, keyboard shortcuts, auto-completion of commands, selection filters. It also offers you the possibility to customize general settings such as display, paths/files, user preferences, crosshairs or profiles.

GRAITEC Advance 2013 – Official release of Advance CAD 2013

Advance CAD provides full compatibility with AutoCAD®, using most of the same file formats including those for drawings (.DWG files), commands, line types, hatch patterns, and text styles. Advance CAD reads and writes .DWG files in their native format without data loss, from AutoCAD® 2012 and going all the way back to Version 2.5, including AutoCAD LT®. Because Advance CAD uses Autodesk® DWG™ format as its native file format, no conversion is required.

Advance CAD offers users all the professional 2D and 3D modeling tools and functionalities and at the same time it is cost effective.

Independent of the AutoCAD® platform since Version 2012, Advance Steel 2013 improves its ergonomics and ease of use by providing a new user interface element, the “palette”, which contains animated buttons and tooltips.

It has many new innovations: first, the ability to create custom connections allowing users to define, store and reuse custom connections in their projects and thus easily adapt to all types of situations.

The new release also adds new connections for cold rolled profiles. Many other features are also available such as the option to create welding lines in drawing and a new recognition technology of “notable points” that applies to manual dimensions that are updated automatically by Advance Steel 2013.

Advance Concrete 2013 main focus is to offer users the freedom to use Advance Concrete with or without AutoCAD. Advance Concrete 2013 includes its own graphics engine allowing the user to select the desired CAD platform.

Advance Concrete 2013 provides greater control and better coordination with the “External drawing technology” allowing the user to place each new view and each new layout in a separate DWG. This results in smaller DWG files and better performance.

A new bar mark management functionalities is also available.
Version 2013 also improves user efficiency and productivity thanks to the new, redesigned Ribbon arrangements and the new Graitec tool palettes.

Advance Design 2013 goes further than ever in helping engineers to optimize the design of concrete, steel and timber structures according to the Eurocodes and North American codes.

Among the many new functionalities in regards to Eurocodes: major 3D climatic generator improvements for EC1 (more accurate wind parameters definition, better management for isolated roofs, additional fields for CsCd calculation), several improvements on the EC2 engine (possibility to place real reinforcement on linear and planar elements, new slab punching verification, availability of a detailed design report including a reinforcement sketch for concrete beams, etc.), EC3 engine improvements (accurate lateral torsional buckling calculation considering intermediate restraints and load application point,buckling check for circular hollow sections of class 4, new joints and improved user interface for the steel connection module, etc.), EC5 improvements (residual area in case of fire verification, improvement of deflection check in the detailed report, etc.).

One main new functionality is dealing with the “Capacity design” implementation helping users to optimize members design according to seismical requirements (especially for EC8).

Advance CAD is a new comer in the Graitec Advance suite. It is a fully compatible DWG® CAD software. It provides its users a simple, natural and economical solution to the frequent requirements of drawing creation and modification. With a modern easy-to-use interface, Advance CAD creates all 2D entities (lines, polylines, arcs, circles, polygons, etc.) and associates all desired colors, line styles and shading. Concepts such as “layers”, “snap points”, “windows” are available as well as all navigation features (zoom, pan, orbit, etc.). Advance CAD can also create and handle 3D solids (cubes, spheres, cylinders, etc.) and perform Boolean operations.

Graitec BIM Connect 2013: A smooth BIM connector to Revit

With GRAITEC BIM Connect, Autodesk Revit Architecture 2013 and Autodesk Revit Structure 2013 users quickly connect their Revit models to the GRAITEC Advance suite and then optimize the design of their structures in accordance with U.S. and Eurocode standards, produce effective and error-free general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, and NC files both for steel and concrete structures. Release 2013 provides key improvements such as extended profile mapping and ACIS solids transfer.

Successful Advance Steel User Day in UKGRAITEC announces another successful Advance Steel User Day organised by its UK office. The event took place at one of the most prestigious locations in the Midlands – the Branston Golf and Country Club, Burton on Trent in Staffordshire.

Carl Spalding, Managing Director of Graitec UK, opened the event by presenting an overview of the global business and concentrating on the expansion and growth locally in the United Kingdom.

Successful Advance Steel User Day in UK

With GRAITEC UK and GRAITEC HQ staff in attendance, the day provided an excellent opportunity to go through detailed demonstrations of the major enhancements the new Advance Steel 2013 release has to offer, all the while re-covering some of the enhancements of previous versions.

The project winners of the Advance Steel 2012 UK User Competition were also announced and presented with their awards whilst other impressive projects completed by number of other clients using Advance Steel were also reviewed.
